I build my life on paper wings,
Then wonder why they never sing.
A thousand futures flood my head,
Yet none survive the tears I shed.
My heart sprints far beyond my feet,
Mistaking hope for something sweet.
I race ahead, I make my plans,
Then watch them fade like grains of sand.
The darkness knows my every flaw,
It speaks in silence, tooth and claw.
It tells me I should turn and run,
Before another war’s begun.
So I retreat before the fight,
Disappearing with the night.
Not because I do not care
Because I’m terrified you’ll stare.
No one ever heard me through,
Half my words, half spoken truths.
I learned that shouting changed no tide,
So now I keep the storm inside.
I love too much, I dream too high,
I kiss the stars, then curse the sky.
A hopeless fool with trembling hands,
Still drawing castles in the sand.
Perhaps that’s why I break apart
A reckless mind, a faithful heart.
Forever chasing what could be…
While darkness keeps convincing me…
I was never meant to keep the things
that ever felt like home to me.
